I'm going to bed. But a mini review... I'd completely forgotten how awesome and influential J Mascis is/was. I saw Dinosaur Jr. mabye 11 years ago, when I was about 19, at an outdoor festival. It was somewhat underwhelming... I enjoyed Dinosaur but I was never a *huge* fan - knew a bunch of their songs and definitely got a kick out of them, but was a little too young in the mid-80s to appreciate the influence on the slightly-later Seattle sound. I wasn't expecting to be blown away tonight. The main reason I went to the show was because my friends' band, The Sounds Of Kaleidoscope, was opening.
But as soon as J Mascis fired up I remembered how frickin cool they were back in the day, and to be fair, they played the old songs better than they did in the early 90s, especially since I wasn't expecting to hear the classics.
Here's a short video clip shot by my girlfriend... the sound quality is AWFUL but it will give you an idea of how damn loud they were (she was standing right next to the speakers). If you know this song, you'll know what it is :)
