2. It was a great speech.
It was so great to see him in his element: in front of a crowd and talking about poverty, health care and the corporate control of America.

I have yet to be impressed with either of the two remaining candidates so I really didn't care who he endorsed. I don't feel that Clinton or Obama have addressed John's issues, my issues, fervently enough to have earned my vote this November. John's endorsement doesn't change that for me, but it does give me hope that these issues will hold a prominent place on the Democratic platform.

I know there are Clinton supporters here in the Edwards forum who are very upset and Obama supporters here who are thrilled. I'm still just a plain ol' Edwards supporter so I'm just glad to see him getting some attention. And I'm VERY glad to see John's issues-poverty, health care, rural America, etc., being discussed. It was a smart move. I think he did what he thought was best for the party and did it in a way that would insure that his issues would be given the attention they deserve.

therefore they figure they own us and they've decided to clean up and create uniformity in the Edwards forum.

hoping to find solace but it's been saracat, saracat, saracat and nothing else...was chased away just for expressing the miniscule thought at times that Hillary was ok and so was Obama. Had to leave as this was worse than PDU..

as it sounds like you are gone? so silly...no...you're not emotional?

"I cleaned out everything on the account as much as I could. More or less turning the lights out. Du has been my cyberhome for several years now but it doesn't feel the same any more. I don't know when or if I'll be back, but I do know that I can't live with the hatred and abuse that is so freely expressed by Obama's "hope and change" supporters. I would like to think Obama would not agree with what they've done here but then again, who knows. I'm going to enjoy voting for my future new democratic governor. I think he'll be good. Bye guys. Good luck. You're going to need it."

15. why do you look at people's profiles?
Edited on Wed May-14-08 10:50 PM by cornermouse
The only reason I'm doing it today is because the avatars aren't appearing on the screen.

I get emotional about my kids, my pets, my car and to some extent, DU. Political candidates don't meet the criteria to be considered an emotional decision. I expect you'll find out the truth about Obama for yourselves soon enough.

You said something about having several names or incarnations and I thought it was possible you were madokie but madokie is still listed.

There you are then.
I don't think I've said anything about Edwards that would hurt her feeling either. On the other hand, I'm not going to let you get away with lying and trying to establish yourself in a psychologically superior position around here either. I grew up in a large family. I doubt you could find or invent a maneuver or manipulation that I haven't already seen someone try.

19. Thanks for this thread
I didn't see it until this afternoon. I stayed out of the way last night when I saw so much bitterness. And I understand the bitterness.

But I cannot blame Barack totally for what happened. Yeah, I wish he had picked 2016, but the timing was too good for him, knowing the election was wide open and seeing how our country is slowly being bled to death by the worst President and his ilk ever.

Now Barack's supporters--not all are bad. A lot of them treated us badly and they continue to be terrible to Clinton. The pundits think John was talking to the superdelegates. I'm certain that's true, but I also think he was talking to his supporters and to Clinton's as well. I was crying during that electric speech, because I understood why he returned to the theme of One America. But rather than try to explain my feelings, I am going to refer to a writer for the American Prospect and blogger I met on the campaign's kickoff in Des Moines: Ezra Klein.

It should have been an inspiring moment. John Edwards, finally on a stage with Barack Obama, throwing his support behind a clean end to the Democratic contest. He was gracious and admiring towards Senator Clinton, as he should have been, and effusive towards Obama. Too often, endorsements, particularly those that come late in the game, are awkward, grudging affairs. But Edwards evinced no such hesitancy. Rather than haltingly trying to fit himself into Obama’s narrative, Edwards did the opposite: He set Obama up as the completion of his narrative.

Talk of the Two Americas always begged the question of how we could build one. It was never a question Edwards had a very good answer for. But nor did I think he ever really needed one. Surely step one was the simple recognition of the country's bifurcation. A candidate willing to admit our condition was better than one who sought to deny it. But last night, Edwards offered a fairly novel reply. Before you can knock down walls, he suggested, you need first unify those who live on either side of the barrier. Obama, Edwards said, could do that.

Me? I'm not in Obama's camp, but I am in the unity camp. I'll still be voting for JRE as a write-in, but only because I have that luxury. But if I lived in a swing state, I'd probably pull the lever for Obama.

As I live in IL, I put my JRE sign out in the yard again.

Do not turn away from these great struggles before us. Do not give up on the causes that we have fought for. Do not walk away from what's possible, because it's time for all of us, all of us together, to make the two Americas one. --John R. Edwards, January 20, 2008, New Orleans, LA

I think Bruce would have backed JRE if he remained viable in the race, but he ended up backing Obama. Obama's campaign has had rights to play the tune a few places, but it was symbolic for him...and for John. John's favorite rocker is Bruce.

What I found more interesting is the tune as Obama was walking up on the stage..."A Beautiful Day", the unofficial song of the Kerry/Edwards campaign.
