So... I'm Phonebanking for Edwards and NH is tough... just like I thought
it'd be. Out of 25 calls 3 actually answered. I convinced one older gentleman who was undecided to swing on over and take a real look at Edwards, one woman clicked the phone off when I said I'm calling for Edwards (meaning she is a repug or she'd tired of phone calls), and another gentleman screamed in my ear and then hung up. Most, I do believe, are screening their calls. OR they are really busy people on Sunday. I'm going to take a break now... Its about that time for supper up there and I'd hate to interupt.. they really hate that. Good luck all you phonebankers.. they're tough up there.

1. I dislike being called. I wonder
how much good it really does a candidate for supporters to make the calls on his/her behalf. I'm afraid it might actually do more harm than good for candidates in the long run.

I suppose I'm in the minority here with regards to this, but that's the way it goes.

4. Well, the one gentleman who did take the time to talk to me really listened
He didn't think anyone was good in the race. He's an old irish-catholic and met kennedy in person. He lives in subsidized housing with a sick wife. He's happy he's on the other side and doesn't have many years to live. We talked about our families and we talked about what we wished we could see.. I told him I think Mr. Edwards is the one who comes the closest to bringing about this change and will fight... and that Mrs. Edwards.. who is an amazing person makes me believe him more. He said he'd really consider it and make his decision... He's an Independent.. He is NOT going to vote for Clinton or Romney. Good man who's seen a lot. Its sad to hear so many elderly say I'm glad I'm not living much longer because I don't see a lot of good coming out of America for the future. We talked for a while and I think it made a difference. AND reaching that 1 person is more important than any of the screened calls or the hang-ups... It is a difference. And it does count.

6. Thanks for sharing that, glowing.
It was poignant and made me see things in a different light. The only calls I've ever rec'd were from LaRouche people - over and over, despite my telling them I wasn't interested in what they had to say - and I suppose that's why I developed a wary attitude.

7. Some people still want a voice and giving them that voice even to a
volunteer makes them feel like they count and that they are important... and that there is still hope and fight. Not all young people are just about money, IPODs and glittery things... I find it absolutely fasinating to hear people who are older and have seen many changes... He said his dad knew Romney's father and they're all ass holes and good for nothing... and the whole clan is much the same.... AND the other that he wouldn't vote for is Clinton.

8. I might be in the minority as well but
It would tick me off. I have an unlisted phone number and I hate getting computer dialed calls. I understand that it's a fast easy way to contact people but I wouldn't be amused by an unsolicited call and I won't volunteer for phone banking.

3. Don't forget-
What you are doing matters. If John Edwards were here right now, he would tell you the same thing.

5. Oh, I know. Just keep dialing... the one I got thru to made a difference.
Hearing from a younger person who has a family and has a lot of living to do yet making an impassioned plea for a vote is so important.
