It's so nice to come to this forum and find sanctuary.
It's rough out there in the GD forums lately.

If it's not "Look! Barack had iced tea for lunch!!!!!!!!" it's "Will Hillary cry again?" or "Edwards support drops again, he should drop out and endorse (fill in name of candidate here)".

Sometimes I just have to come here to gather my thoughts before I go back out to do battle.

The big point seems to be Edwards doesn't have the money, which means he isn't popular, doesn't have the support, and can't possibly win. They think that argument is valid and reinforces their support of their candidate (this mostly comes from the Obamabots).

Yet they don't understand it really just reinforces the fact that MONEY is still electing Presidents in this country. Hillary and Barack don't have the courage, ethics, morals, or inner strength to reject the dirty lobbyist money - only Edwards does.

And no one in the Clinton or Obama camp can explain how their candidate will bring real change, all the while taking money from the very parties responsible for the mess we're in. They're fools if they thing these folks are going to give up their cushy profits willingly. Why can't people see that?

Thanks to everyone in the Edwards group, it's a nice place to come to.

1. I need to spend more time here :)
Starting threads here is easier than on the public boards, you don't have to babysit them :D

3. It does surprise me-
When I came here, a short time ago, I felt like I was in a place surrounded by left wing radicals. In other words, I felt right at home. That's why is surprises me that there is a small, but very vocal, minority of people willing to support the status quo.

Don't they know that the media (or big corporate power, they are one in the same these days) is pushing these people down our throats? What is the reason for that?

I've also noticed, that Edwards kicks butt in every signal poll. I just think we're nicer, for the most part, and don't make as much noise about non-issues.

4. I have to agree. This IS a sanctuary, and it's much appreciated.
I don't post much anywhere around here, but I read every day. I come here to read when I need a positive pick-me-up. So, thanks to all of you for being here.

My hubby and I are both firm supporters of John Edwards, and that isn't going to change.

6. It's a pleasure spending time with my DU Edwards supporters.
That is, those who haven't defected to the "winning" teams!

GD:P has been saturated with vile hit pieces. This group is my sanctuary!

my home computer died, so I can only read this stuff here at work.

Boy, I'm glad I missed what I'm sure was beyond ugly here this weekend.

8. GDP and to a lesser extent GD
Edited on Mon Jan-14-08 08:03 PM by ClericJohnPreston
are not for the faint of heart.

As a Trial Attorney I relish battles and there are plenty to be found on the aforementioned boards.

Then again, as someone who respects logic and real debate, I find that 95% of the GDP boards is filled with obnoxious posters who are the worst in partisanship, NON-CRITICAL thinkers!

That is my general lament. The people that post nauseatingly repetitious posts for Obama , are absolutely unable to logicly advance their candidate. They use FALLACIOUS ARGUMENTS all day long from ad hominen attacks to straw man arguments.

When pressed with logic and facts, they turn a deaf ear due to COGNITIVE DISSONANCE. So, the saddest thing I can say is, we are all wasting our time trying to change the minds of CULT THINKERS.

They have chosen the Kool-Aid and enlisted in the Jim Jones army ( the origin of drinking the Kool-Aid ). It is sad and pathetic that anyone at DU would support a candidate who is a wolf in sheep's clothing...a Repub-lite, who criticizes his own Party. But, just sicken yourself for a few minutes, not participating, but just observing, how foolish the partisans sound.

Give them a mere sound byte with no substance and they assimilate the words, even if there is no meaning behind them. How cynical of the candidate who has chosen to play down to the dumbest and most naive in the process.

As I always say, "form over substance".

By the way, I never mention Hillary because her shillery is known to all. But, Obamites are the most frustrating because they are as easily taken in as children watching a "magician" at a five year old party.

P.S. ( I should know as I had one at my daughters 5th party last spring...the kids had vacant stares of wonderment without question )

There is nothing wrong with innocence, UNLESS IT IS EXPLOITED BY CYNICAL CAMPAIGNS!!!!!

And yeah...this forum is a great place :)

9. Actually - my own home was a battlefield. My live-in boyfriend drank the Obama kool-aid
and thinks he walks on water. All I really say around home is how unfair it is that the media ignores Edwards, and my boyfriend takes it personally that I am somehow bashing Obama? :eyes:

He is constantly telling me to "read his books" when I ask just how Obama is going to bring about all this change.

10. "read his books" well, that will surely impress the nation, given that most don't do much reading
about politics.

sigh....

Did you shove "Four Trials" under his nose? :hi:

11. Read his books?
One reads like a self-congratulatory, gratuitously positive primer, the other is his liberal "Mein Kampf".

12. good analysis

Keep in mind that a very small number of posters have a disproportionately large presence. They dominate the board by bullying others and can appear to be larger in numbers than they are that way.

I have noticed that if I don't take their bait, but just calmly call them on their behavior, or refute their lies, they just wilt and run away and hide. In other words, they are bullies and they are cowards. Standing up to bullies is always a good idea, but don't let them suck you into their hatred and ugliness in the process.

There will be a lot of taunting and mocking and provocation in the coming days. We don't have to endure it and be stressed out over it and we don't have to take the bait and get angry or hateful. They have to play those games, because they have nothing else. We have something they can't take away from us. Remember, our goal is that the truth wins and that the people win, not that "our team" wins.

on edit - one more thing...

We don't fight merely to win. We fight because it is the right thing to do, win or lose. This isn't a sporting contest or a betting pool. There are some causes that it is better to fight for and lose than it is to not fight at all.

13. I like your point
about fighting what we would call the "good fight" on Principle alone. It follows the old saying that it is better to have tried and lost, then never to have tried at all.

I do applaud that rationale, as sometimes you can't calculate, in terms of immediacy, the effect you will have in future events, due to your efforts.

That said, I must tell you, as a Trial lawyer, it almost comes naturally to me to play to win. Sometimes I wish it weren't that way, recognize the weakness, but, still cannot remove that from my personality. By extension, it may get me locked up in a tussle in a thread, but I have made progress merely walking away from the provocateurs on the board.

Playing to win - yes, indeed. It will take both the dreamers and the pragmatists, and this campaign needs - and welcomes - both.

The beauty of the Edwards campaign is that we do not have to choose between practicality and idealism. We have waited a long time for that. Many Democrats are having difficulty adjusting to this new reality, and are distrustful of the Edwards phenomenon as a result. They think that a candidate MUST be a sell out or a savior, with nothing in between; that we MUST compromise or we will lose, again with no other alternatives.

Thanks for all of your great posts, by the way. One thing to count on - the Edwards supporters have your back. Notice how in the other camps things are always moving towards divisiveness, bitterness, and exclusion, with the only thing holding them together being heavy-handed loyalty tests, and fear mongering and threats. Here in the Edwards camp, we grow, we get stronger, we find common ground and common cause, we expand and develop and hone the message, and things continually improve rather than descending into the pit of Hell.
