How is it that WE simple peons can make something so clear while these "pros" make it look like mud??? Edwards offers clarity!
Great question. How is that?
Here is a possibility: many Democrats want to sound as though they support the average working class person, that they are in favor of all of the Democratic party positions, but they actually have an entirely different agenda. I think this is the biggest problem with the party. About 10% of the Democrats - the most vocal among the activists, the most domineering, and the pundits and consultants, and most of the leadership - are actually deeply opposed to the traditional ideals and principles of the party.
That is why the rhetoric comes across as such gobbledy gook, and that is why the average person either does not know what the hell Democrats are talking about.
I won't mention names, but listening to a couple of the candidate's speeches the other night I was stunned by how cleverly they were designed to sound as though they supported Democratic party ideas, without actually overtly supporting Democratic party ideas. We are always led to believe that this is because they don't have a backbone, or are trying to pander or triangulate. But the simpler answer is that they actually support the basic pro-wealthy Republican party ideas, and dress up their talks with left-sounding rhetoric to disguise that and to suck in support.
