But I can't imagine a contemporary major German politician holding him as any kind of exemplar during a modern German election campaign.

1. Invoking Reagan to Democrats is no different than

invoking Hitler. Obama KNOWS that...why does he do it? Why indeed.

2. Unity and reaching across the aisle

That was the theme of his speech at the Democratic Convention that brought him to everyone's attention.

I liked the speech, but I was angered by his line about all of us worshipping the same God. He was reaching out and stating the theme of one America that he has used in his campaign, but he was excluding all non-theists and even all non-monotheists. This is more of the same: he may genuinely think he's reaching out to the other half of America, but in fact he's alienating a large part of the country by insulting it and dismissing its anger.

3. We Democrats don't agree on everything...

And good Dems support different people. But Reagan??? :wtf:
