I am getting more and more scared. For the last two years, the media has been shoving Hilary Clinton down our throats. I believe that is who the powerful Republicans want in. They knew that no Republican would have a good chance after Bush, so they decided which Dem candidate was most consistent with their agenda - or worst case scenario an active participant with them in driving their agenda. They picked her. Then they pushed their surrogates in the MSM to drive her campaign. They pushed Obama because a) he made a good story, b) they knew he was unelectable because of racist voters, c) they knew of his ties to Rezko (heck I heard about it myself over a year ago) and knew they could keep that in their back pockets to knock him out at the right time, or d) all of the above. The rest of the candidates were no concern to them except for Edwards. They knew Edwards could win, so they launched this media blackout.
Now the powerful Repubs who put Bush in have it just how they want it. The Dem candidate will be their pick: Clinton. As a free bonus, all this racial stuff between her and Obama and the fact she is so severely polarizing will have served to weaken the Democratic party at a time when we should be at our strongest. They can either keep hands off the Republican nomination process or push it the way they want it to go. I'll bet they want McCain. Every time I see that horrible photo from 2004 where McCain is all sweaty and hugging Bush while they stand on stage, I am completely convinced that McCain completely sold his soul to them. After what they did to him in 2000, they must have promised him something big to get his support (or else they threatened him). I'll bet they promised him the nom. So, general election time rolls around and both candidates are already in their pocket. This is very scary. Very, very bad.
I thought the voting process would be pretty safe in the primaries and they wouldn't start stealing votes until the general, but events in NH make it seem they may have started already, and this line of thinking makes me see why. It's safer for them to arrange for both candidates in the general to be THEIR candidates. They won't need to steal votes in the general and it won't matter if it is close enough to steal them. They do their dirty work in the early primaries, get all the Dem candidates except their girl out, and let the general go however it will.
I'm generally against third party candidates. Now I'm wondering if it is the only thing that will save us. If all these important endorsements are not going to John, even though it would seem natural that many of them would go his way (and I have heard whisperings that he is not well-liked among the Dems in Washington), maybe he has no real bridges left to burn by going third party. Something has to happen. This is really dangerous for our country. A Gore-Edwards third party ticket would be a huge winner - big enough to supersede vote stealing, I think.
I'm just worried sick.
