Asheville Citizen-Times: Shuler by his side, Edwards blasts BushHENDERSONVILLE — The message was simple: It’s time for political change, and the Democratic Party has the candidates.
Braving a steady rain, more than 300 people seemed energized by that message Tuesday afternoon during a joint appearance by congressional candidate Heath Shuler and John Edwards, former U.S. senator and vice presidential candidate and a possible presidential candidate. The Democratic Party of Henderson County hosted the event.
Shuler, who faces incumbent Rep. Charles Taylor, R-Brevard, in the November election, praised the accomplishments of the three organizations benefiting from the hot dog lunch fundraiser — Habitat for Humanity, the Housing Assistance Corp. and the Mainstay women’s shelter.
“There’s nothing more fulfilling than when you get that first opportunity to see a mom, dad and children embrace in a new home they can call their own,” Shuler said. He also touted his plan for a $1,500 tax credit for new homeowners.
