on edit: Not to say it wasn't a beautiful, powerful speech that didn't have me in tears several times...I just wanted him to give us a real reason. It will definitely be interesting to see if the other two hold true to their promise and make poverty central.

It will be depressing when it gets here, that's for sure. I'm sure he will do something good with all of the hard earned money we all gave to his cause.

3. I think that John still has an extremely important part to play in

this presidential race: holding Clinton and Obama's feet to the fire, and making sure they walk the talk, that they make their pledge to him a reality.

He did have a huge effect on this race, as we all know. We can listen to Clinton and Obama, and hear echoes of Edwards' words in theirs.

He's even had an effect on the rhetoric of the Republicans. Yesterday, after the race in Florida was called for McCain, I heard very distinct echoes of Edwards' theme in both McCain's and Romney's speeches. Of course, I put far less stock in them carrying out any type of populism theme if they won (perish the thought!) than I would in Clinton or Obama doing it.

John is passionate, and for me, he was and is the voice of the Democratic party. And I think he can still have a major impact by continuing to speak out, and, as I said, holding Clinton's and Obama's feet to the fire, and making them walk their talk.

For now, though, I'm just sad that he dropped out. :cry:

I just don't understand, why now? The rush of support after the debate, growing fundraising and support, so many people so dedicated to his campaign and most importantly the promise to stay in. I know in my heart something huge must have gone down for him to quit now, but dammit I want to know why! And unless one of us is tight with a senior campaign person I don't think we'll really ever know the truth...

I just feel dazed.

He had a huge effect on the race, but he has no leverage now. With John out, the others will abandon the lip service they have given to our causes.
