JRE Supports Repeal of Don't Ask Don't Tell
Senator John Edwards released the following statement today calling for an end to the military's 'Don't Ask, Don't Tell' policy on gays and lesbians in the military.

Earlier today, Congressman Marty Meehan reintroduced his Military Readiness Enhancement Act, which would repeal the 'Don't Ask, Don't Tell' policy.

"It is long past time to end the military's 'Don't Ask, Don't Tell' policy and to allow openly gay men and women to serve in the military. It is critical to our national security that we have the best people in our military. Gay men and women have continually served our country with honor and bravery, and we should honor their commitment and never turn away anyone who is willing to serve their country because of their sexual orientation.

"This is an issue of fundamental fairness and our military ought to treat everyone fairly. I applaud Congressman Meehan on his important legislation."

2. Context for Coulter
Now her gratuitous remark for the edifciation of all the curent GOP ham sandwiches running for office. She has the most vicious antipathy toward sane good guys that is part of the mix but the present trashy remark that casts so much renown on the RW stalwarts and pretenders to the throne is the usual anti-gay wedge they will use over and over again whenever possible- since nothing decent for them ever is anymore.

Edwards should ignore the messenger(the reverse of the RW response)and blame the outlets and audience that support and affirm the destructive message that so enriches her with GOP campaign dough. Edwards under particular attack is not so much as the fundamentals of liberty, compassion and justice themselves. THESE are the threats the GOP lusts to humiliate and remove.

The GOP is a political perversion and these days or in the near future even hinting such might land you in a Halliburton Coulter Gulag. Rehab is Coulter's private affair. Perhaps she feels threatened by the retreat of caught RW hypocrites to those temporary PR and legal sanctuaries.Seeing her trotted front and center continuously into American discourse to destroy its very possibility is an open conspiratorial crime.

This is the sort of cackling obscenity, spiteful lies and derision one imagines in the depths of Hell, but finds in broadband daylight endlessly repeated with relish in GOP outlets and gatherings.

3. Agree with Edwards on this and really like his support of the Meehan
legislation.

Other nations have no problem with lesbians and gays in their militaries. No reason the U.S. should either.

5. Good.
Clinton was ahead of his time when he originally supported repealing the ban on gays, but anybody who doesn't now is behind the times. I've served with a number of gays in my seven years in the Air Force, and none of them were ever an imposition. With the recent poll showing that over 70% of the military favor repealing the current rules, it's clear that once again, Washington is the last to catch up with the rest of the country.
