Greater than 50% chance John will endorse (a more recent article)
http://tpmelectioncentral.talkingpointsmemo.com/2008/02/edwards_aide_john_having_priva.php

excerpt:

"The Edwards aide cautioned against reading too much into the meetings, saying that he'd been talking to both of them before. 'He's torn,' the aide said 'He has reservations about Hillary, which are pretty apparent.'"

"On Obama, the aide says, 'Edwards worries whether he's tough enough to be President of the United States. If you look at what Edwards ran on, which is not negotiating with the special interests, taking away their power, that's pretty different than the Obama model.'"

"The Edwards aide added that Obama's lack of a health care plan with a 'mandate' is a 'tough hurdle for him to get over.' He added, however, that Edwards is much more in line with Obama on other issues."

Hmmm... I wonder if Obama's lack of a health care plan (that even begins to approach universal health care) is as important to JRE as it is to me. And I wonder how much it still bothers JRE that he once referred to Obama's "negotiating" with the powerful corporate special interests by "bringing them to the table" as "naive" - that these interests have stolen what belongs to the people and will NOT give any of that power up without a fight.

ABC News: Obama-Edwards meeting has been rescheduled
Mon Feb-11-08 01:51 PM

ABC News' Sunlen Miller Reports: An in-person meeting schedule for tonight between Senator Barack Obama and former Senator John Edwards in North Carolina has been rescheduled, the Obama campaign confirms.

The two were intended to meet in North Carolina, Edwards’s home state, after Obama’s last campaign event of the day wrapped up in Baltimore.

A campaign source says that the meeting is being rescheduled.

Senator Clinton met with John Edwards secretly last Thursday. Both candidates are actively courting John Edwards's endorsement. Obama told reporters earlier this week that he talks with Edwards on the phone frequently and he has personally asked him for his endorsement.

While it is unclear which party ultimately pulled the plug on tonight's meeting between Obama and Edwards, sources indicate the meeting will be rescheduled in coming days.

No cause was given for the abrupt rescheduling but sources have indicated that the Obama campaign and Edwards wished that the meeting would be done in private without massive media attention.

Obama campaigns today in Maryland in advance of primaries in Maryland, Virginia and Washington, D.C., on Tuesday.
