How many here have had it?
Really? I'm curious to see how many Edwards supporters are sick of the childish, ugly and vile things that are being posted here (and I mean GD-P in general) - I just saw a thread where the OP was saying there were going to see Bill Clinton at their high school and was wondering what questions to ask, 99.9% of the replies could have come straight from Free Republic. I think this election is going to sink this party, I was under the impression that Democrats were the compassionate ones, silly me.

1. Yes, I've had it.
I've had it with being poor and ignored.

I've had it with being homeless and judged, and ignored.

I've had it with trying to do everything I can to build awareness, and succeeding at... .
.............NOTHING.

I've had it with trying to get people to take action, and having them turn away, and spend their energy with "polls" and such.

I've had it with constantly reminding people about poverty when they leave it out of their list of priorities.

Yes, I've had it.

me of American Idol/Survivor on steroids. And I've been here almost three years. Everything now is: Oh looky! Something bright and shiny! Forget issues, they have landed by the wayside.

I highly recommend registering and posting here: http://www.eenrblog.com/

The community there is more attuned to this.

i'm sorry bobbie, but most of us have no idea how to help
and you are less than forthcoming. just what is it you expect us to do? i am as concerned about poverty & homelessness as you are, but i, personally, have no idea how to help ... especially how to help without offending someone.

bobbie, please take the chip off your shoulder & put out concrete ideas how people can address these issues. don't just say 'poverty, homelessness, poverty, homelessness' and continually beat us over the head with it. that does not help anything. and it doesn't say HOW we can help. be specific. what exactly is it you want us to do?

you go to every website & do this ... and then leave because no one there knows what to do to help. then you say it again & when no one does anything, you say 'remove my name from your list' & off you go. you will have to help us to help you until we get the hang of it on our own.

just my $0.02 worth.

Would YOU please remove your chip???

I've posted MANY requests for action, yet I haven't noticed YOU replying to any of those.

I haven't noticed YOU saying that you will write/call on the requested action.

I haven't noticed YOU saying that you will happily send the info on to others.

You have NO right to get on my case, when you know you haven't taken action you KNOW you could take.

So, I'm done with your self-serving little tantrum.

Either have some compassion and step into my shoes for a while, or put me on ignore.

Your liberal choice.

Oh, and please don't use the term "sorry" when you are criticising someone. "Sorry" is a very important word, and peace-making word, and using it in that way is very UNpeaceable.

Thank you.

ever heard the phrase 'you catch more bees with honey than with vinegar?' you put people off with your angry attitude & militant style and that's probably why no one answers. how do you answer someone with so much anger & hostility? and i haven't answered before BECAUSE I DON'T KNOW WHAT TO SAY THAT WON'T OFFEND YOU & I AM AFRAID OF BEING ATTACKED, which is exactly what you have done.

bobbie, i am going to put you on ignore because your comments are hostile & uninviting. i come to this forum to relax & chat, not to put up with bullshit.

13. You don't have to like me. Just as nobody had to like Martin Luther King, or Malcolm X,
both of whom were told to "be patient", "don't be so pushy", etc.

I appreciate you putting me on ignore.. it will make both of us happier.

And, thank you for being forthcoming and admitting that you consider poverty "bullshit".

Your honesty is refreshing.

21. To relax & chat...
Do you think Bobbie is doing this for herself? She is trying to keep these important issues in the forefront for the benefit of EVERYONE!! You won't find these stories in the MSM because most people who are not directly affected just don't give them a second thought. Also, does this make you uncomfortable? Well, it should, we all should feel that way because its an embarrassment that such a large segment of our population must live/exist in a situation where they are made to feel totally irrelevent.

Bobbie has the courage and has chosen to stand up and NOT let herself be irrelevent, to me that is inspirational. If you and the other people cannot accept that, do like she told you, use ignore. Personally, I wish there were more like bobbolink, more who were as serious about this great embarrassment to our nation. Only then, when people are as committed so strongly to telling people what they do not like to hear, will there be any chance to BEGIN a dialogue that will benefit all.

33. You may...
put me on ignore if you like, it makes no difference to me. But you are the one who lashed out and all I did was try to explain the facts. "you should read my post more carefully" I have read them all very carefully, to remind you, some of your quotes:
and you are less than forthcoming
please take the chip off your shoulder

I am not a mind reader either, but you don't have to be, important issues sometimes need drastic measures and bobbolink has chosen to use these measures, at least it gets a rise out of some people. And about taking the chip off, well, you might have to walk in someone else's shoes to understand why there is a chip, shit, I have one and I have not gone through anything NEAR what bobbolink has to endure on a daily basis. Yes, it is nice to be able to relax and have a pleasant conversation, but some issues are beyond that, if the importance and discussion of poverty and homelessness do not relax you maybe you should avoid these topics. Just read your quotes and tell me who is being hostile.

2. Yes, BUT ...
as far as GD-P goes, I'm resigned to waiting it out. (It might be easier for me as I've only been active here a few months) As far as the issues that Bobbolink raises, I've definitely had it. But I can't let my disgust be self-defeating -- either for myself or the Party.

8. I used some of the useful tools DU provides...
(not to be confused with the tools in GD-P...lol).

In my preferences I've hidden avatars, photos and sig lines. The BO pepsi symbol and oversized photos of his teeth were making me nauseous. Not BO himself, but chances are it was the poster.

I hope to ride it out, unless Obama gets the nom and the gloaters multiply, even though Skinner said he'd give gloating a week, then those comments will be deleted. We'll see.

Otherwise, since JRE suspended, I'm just in the "I don't care" mode about politics. I miss the passion, but about 99% of DU is still bearable :) Oh, and that wonderful Gore/Edwards poll was a good sign too!

16. Yup, completely fed up.
I just don't even care how it turns out...I haven't been in GD:P for months, pretty much since John suspended. Even seeing the titles of the stuff that shows up on the front page make me realize how glad I am I'm not reading any of it.

I think you're right that we're headed downhill, if not already rolling around in the mud at the bottom. I'm afraid we're doing that snatch defeat from the jaws of victory thing again, worse than we ever have before.

As stressed and busy as I am with tax season, I'm almost secretly glad that I am because it's kept me so busy that it's been easy to pay less attention to all of the crap being spewed, and easy to boycott the news, since I don't have time to watch it.

Being in PA, the little TV I have watched has been flooded with Obama commercials, and I have to say that they're pretty persuasive...he's saying all the things I want to hear...regardless, I'm voting for John, but it scares me that the O commercials are starting to work on me a little...

17. Would you like some kool-aid?
Edited on Thu Apr-03-08 04:37 PM by balantz
They tell me it comes in any flavor you like. Or, if it is more to your taste you can make your own flavor from the wonderful assortment of flavor ideas. There are quite a variety of flavor ideas, one of the most popular is the big-selling "HOPE" flavor idea. It comes in all shades of gray; shades you like, shades you can agree with, and some possibly uncomfortable shades that you can easily accept into your current palette just to be culturally comfortable and able to fit into the big, hopeful family of "HOPE". Come fall there will be an entire new selection of the same offers, but newly packaged in bright, shiny wrappings that will resemble some beverage or fast-food logo that you have been raised to feel warm and fuzzy with. Your presence in the family is anticipated with much "HOPE", and a cup of kool-aid will be waiting for your arrival into the big, hopeful tent of "HOPE". See you soon now, and have a hopeful day!

on edit: I'm just funnin'. I'll add the sarcasm thingy.

:sarcasm:

18. I have been tired of it for some time
The only times of late that I have even ventured into GD-P was to add my voice to an Edwards thread...or to defend a fellow Edwards Democrat.

The vile, ugliness of this political season has made me sick and the titles of some of the threads in GD-P are sometimes even worse. Recently I saw a Obama supporter with an avatar that really got to me. They were using his red, white, and blue O, but had put a picture of Jesus in the middle. I have to say I was taken aback by it. I took it to mean they were likening Obama to Jesus. Not sure if that was their intention, but that is the way I took it and I find that scary in the extreme.

I have to say, I will be glad when this is over. I don't have much faith in the people left running for President. I just pray that whoever wins, that they don't finish the job started by Bush and Cheney.

Bridges burned completely are difficult to impossible to rebuild.

This place is full of flaws, and full of some kind of ill fervor. I'm not certain all are Democrats. And many who label themselves Democrats may not really know what a Democrat is traditionally, much less a "progressive" one.

Down the road things may change again toward the left here, but probably not for some time. This site seems to be more a capatilist venture than a leftist, activist board.

Trying to post something reasonable, progressive-populist-socialist, or offering any constructive criticism is near impossible here now, and so participation is quite limited for some of us, but in reality, who is there to leave? We are sitting at our homes or at work and engaging and exchanging words from our thoughts electronically and in reality are not at anyplace that we actually have to leave. For me it is a practice in emotional disengagement--learning to not identify with issues in an emotionally attached way. There are many social and political issues that have always been for the most part out of my hands. Learning to be at peace with that is part of my ability to be able to engage more fully and effectively in my own small and mostly limited way while distancing myself from all of the drama. Sure, I post some emotional sounding things, especially venting about the fascist oligarchy, but that is my kind of fun sometimes. It makes me feel like I've stuck it to the monsters that keep themselves out of reach. I can also (to a point) criticize Democrats who don't do what they were put in office for.

I posted a story in GD about a woman who was trying to help the homeless in her area. It is not an answer to the problem, it was just her way of helping in some small way.

I thought it was a nice story. Some did not and told me so, even telling me I devalued homeless people and their plight.

It was never my intention to do that. I just posted a story. So I think it maybe time I left DU. I have some hard thinking to do before I make my final decision....

34. I've totally had it.
I think DU is overrun with freepers who are supporting Obama. Yeah it's a tinfoil idea, but when I see a poll that has 54% saying they've voted rethuglican in the past, well, that makes me extremely suspicious of exactly WHO is posting on DU these days and WHY. Not only that, but I hardly ever see the old user IDs of people I used to enjoy. I can't help but wonder where they've all gone...

IMO, DU and the entire country has gone insane if they think any of the candidates running now are going to give a damn about the majority of us-EVER. It's corporatism all the way baby. The majority of us and the planet are totally screwed!

You know, sometimes, I wish I could like H or O because it would be so much easier. I've even asked myself "Who is the lesser of the two evils?" But then I quickly shake myself and say "WTF ARE YOU THINKING?! These are people who have sold YOU, the country and the planet out!"

It's just that I'm starved for some REAL hope and some REAL inspiration!

I miss Edwards.

I miss Gore.

In the recent past I would go there too like that and then snap out of it. Now it doesn't work anymore, it never gets beyond a thought or a wish just beginning to formulate and then just fizzles out. There really is nothing there with either one of them to go further than a sickening whimper of disappointment.

And these old guard heroes that people think have done such great service, like the recent "One Who Shall Not Be Named" in another thread or two, really make me wonder if there is a Democratric Party anymore. I fear the Party is just a left wing of a bird that is flying to the right for the winter.

I've known this for a long time, but had great hopes for Gore and for Edwards. Like we all did here.

Where do we all go from here? That's the question.

I know I'm not going to drink the Kool Aid or fly right for the winter, but it's funny how even though I know it's over I'm still looking for some kind of hope.

And all I'm left with is a sliver of hope about the convention, that's it. :(

39. As far as the current situation goes in the presidential race the convention
is my only "hope" as well. Even though I use the word and sometimes have the sentiment, I have for the most part given up on hope. It is a meaningless projection into an unknown future. Who really knows what will come. As always there will be both good and bad. The dire conditions facing us actually offer little hope. It will be interesting to see what happens in our life-times. If my ten year old survives to an old age he will really have seen some amazing events.
