DU War Vets vs Iraq War! - 2003 vs 2006
I ask all DU war vets, especially ones from the Vietnam War, to speak out against the Iraq War and how you truly felt about the decision to go into war with Iraq in 2003 compared to how you feel about it today in 2006.

I was totally against it in 2003, for I felt it was truly another political (lie war) Vietnam disaster for us to enter under this current corrupt GOP regime. I now am further saddened today only because this has all come true as being another Vietnam style quagmire that will suck the life right out of us as we destroy countrysides/towns and kill foreigners for profits in the process.

http://www.vaiw.org/vet/index.php ENDORSE VAIW

Veterans Against Iraq War is a coalition of American veterans who support our troops but oppose war with Iraq or any other nation that does not pose a clear and present danger to our people and nation.

Until and unless the current U.S. Administration provides evidence which clearly demonstrates that Iraq or any other nation poses a clear, direct and immediate danger to our country, we oppose all of this Administration's pre-emptive and unilateral military activities in Iraq. Furthermore, we cannot support any war that is initiated without a formal Declaration of War by Congress, as our
Constitution requires.

Furthermore, we do not believe that the American military can or should be used as the police force of the world by any administration, Republican or Democrat. Consequently, we believe that the lives and well being of our nation's soldiers, sailors, airmen and marines should not be squandered or sacrificed for causes other than in the direct defense of our people and nation.

Finally, we believe that a doctrine of pre-emptive and unilateral U.S. military attack on Iraq or any other nation is illegal, unnecessary, counter-productive and presents a truly dire and distressing threat to our vital international interests and basic national security. As military veterans, we have a unique understanding of war and know the many hidden truths that lie behind war's easy theories and promises, as well as behind the tragic consequences that even, "victory" brings. We therefore call on all like-minded veterans and family members to endorse this statement and support us in our efforts to help avert, mitigate or stop a national tragedy and an international calamity.

1. All of that is true,
one more thing it has done that nam didn't is this. When we left SE asia we left, meaning the people we fought were just glad to see US troops leave and when we did that was the end of it.

Not this war! Now that this admin has started this war, it want be up to the US to say when it's over. This country has allot of people pissed off at us, and they want just leave us alone if we decide to leave.

This admin had no clue what it was getting into when it went into Iraq, this admin likes to call this war "The Long War" Sounds like a hollywood movie or some such BS, but it's not of course and it's no longer up to the american people to say when it's over.

2. That's a Direct Hit!
You got that right brother..... this scam war will be with us until the end of 'our' time I'm afraid. It has already created a hidden escalation of unknown forces against the US/UK around the world. We've become the worst of the worse in the many eyes of the world all because of approx 30-40% of a selfish population in America lead by ignorance and greed in this administration and its big corporations that are joined at the hip with them.

In 2003 as I saw what was coming with Bush/Cheney's call to these fake wars. I thought that by 2005, our new president, Kerry would spend the next four years fixing all of what was broken by Bush and Company including our broken foreign affairs relations. Now in 2006, I only see total destruction heading our way for it is too late to reverse what has been done. As America weakens.... the opposition to the US now sees it's chance to take us to our knees. It will be then that the ignorant portion of Americans start begging for mercy and forgiveness. Can we expect any forgiveness for all the lies and damage we've done throughout history? I don't think so. Vietnam was the last warning shot in which we were let off the hook without punishment for that invasion. The Middle East has drawn all cannons toward us since 1991 thanks to the Bush Family.

Anyone care to predict what will be by 2010-2012? Here's a small clue. Our '08 presidential selection will only have wars and bio germ epidemics to deal with under a collapsed economy. I can only thank the Neocons and Bush Family once again for that.

3. Support the Troops, Oppose the Policy

Furthermore, we cannot support any war that is initiated without a formal Declaration of War by Congress, as our Constitution requires.

Although we detested the dictatorial policies of Saddam Hussein and sympathized with the tragic plight of the Iraqi people, we opposed unilateral and pre-emptive U.S. military intervention on the grounds that it established a dangerous precedent in the conduct of international affairs, that it could easily lead to an increase of violent regional instability and the spread of much wider conflicts, that it places needless and unacceptable financial burdens on the American people, that it diverts us from addressing critical domestic priorities, and that it distracts us from our goals of tracking down and destroying international terrorists and their lairs.

We ask that you support our troops, by demanding that they be brought home from Iraq immediately. We ask that you support our nation's vital interests, by demanding that our troops should never be placed in harm's way except to meet and defeat any direct and immediate threat to our people.
