The Phillip twins — Sophia, left, and Sonia — do everything together, including becoming U.S. citizens Friday at Yokosuka’s Chapel of Hope. YOKOSUKA NAVAL BASE, Japan — Look for the mole placement, advise Sonia and Sophia Phillip.
Their faces won’t give them away to most people. Neither will their clothes — both women wear the U.S. Navy uniform on the Sasebo-based amphibious assault ship USS Essex.
And, after Friday, their passports won’t distinguish them either, as both raised their hands together to become U.S. citizens during a naturalization ceremony at Yokosuka Naval Base.
Because the two 19-year-old twins from Trinidad do everything together, the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services made an effort to keep it that way.
“They even answered the questions together — in stereo,” said Immigration Services assistant attaché Stacy Strong, who interviewed them. “I’ve never seen like that before.”
