Paratrooper dies from gunshot wound in N.C.

A soldier from the 82nd Airborne Division died early Friday morning from a gunshot wound at the Cambridge Arms apartment complex in Fayetteville, N.C., according to a press release.

Sgt. Christopher Mark Lewis Irvin, 23, of Statesboro, Ga., was a vehicle maintenance shop foreman with the 508th Special Troops Battalion, 4th Brigade Combat Team, 82nd Airborne, at Fort Bragg, N.C.

Irvin, who joined the Army in September 2005, arrived at the 82nd Airborne in April 2006 and deployed in January 2007 to Afghanistan where he served for 15 months.

He is survived by his wife, Shakarie D. Irvin, son, Christopher Mark Lewis Irvin Jr., and mother, Andretta M. Golden.

The incident is under investigation by authorities in Fayetteville.
