Two U.S. soldiers have been charged with mistreatment of Afghan detainees and failure to report the abuse, military officials said Tuesday.
Capt. Roger T. Hill and 1st Sgt. Tommy L. Scott, both with 1st Battalion, 506th Infantry Regiment, based at Fort Campbell, Ky., were charged in an incident in eastern Afghanistan earlier this year.
Eighteen witnesses testified during an Article 32 hearing Monday on allegations against the officer and noncommissioned officer, according to a news release issued by Combined Joint Task Force-101.
A report from within the unit led to a probe of the allegations, officials said.
