S.D. Air Guard prepares to deploy

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. — Members of the South Dakota Air National Guard are preparing for a post-Christmas deployment to support the war in Iraq.

An activation ceremony will be held Saturday in Sioux Falls for the 52 members of a civil engineering squadron.

It’s the second mobilization for about half of the airmen, who previously deployed in 2003 to Iraq and Jordan in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom.

The National Guard says about 40 troops from the Guard are on duty now in Iraq, Afghanistan, and elsewhere.
