22nd MEU to hold urban exercise in Va.

RICHMOND, Va. — About 2,200 Marines and sailors will participate in an urban training exercise in the Richmond area in January.

The exercise will be conducted by the 22nd Marine Expeditionary Unit, stationed at Camp Lejeune, N.C., in coordination with the FBI and local officials. It is scheduled to run Jan. 9-24.

The Marines said Tuesday that the exercise is designed to enhance the 22nd’s ability to conduct operations in a realistic urban environment.

The 22nd is scheduled to be deployed overseas in the spring, and the training sites will replicate areas in which it might operate.
