If you get foreign language proficiency pay, you may want to double check that you are getting the correct amount.
An Air Force Audit Agency review of pay records found that 5 percent of active-duty airmen receiving the language pay were not being paid the right amount for their skill level.
Errors were more widespread in the Air National Guard, where auditors found 68 percent of the records were wrong.
The agency did not examine the records of all 4,600-plus airmen and civilians getting extra dollars for knowing a foreign language. Instead, the service checked the files of 185 active-duty airmen and 184 Guard members
Most discrepancies for active-duty airmen could be traced to incorrect test scores entered into the airmen’s electronic personnel records, the audit found. The amount of pay an airman receives is based on how high he scores on the annual language test.
