NCO training overhaul

FORT MONROE, Va. — Branch service schools throughout the Army are performing major surgery on their Basic and Advanced Noncommissioned Officer courses as part of an ongoing overhaul of the NCO Education System.

Soldiers who attend school during the coming year and beyond should brace themselves for an intense learning experience designed to hone skills in their current rank, while preparing them for duties at the next higher grade.

The Army’s dual-track approach to training is expected take many soldiers out of their comfort zones as the Army accelerates their professional development:

• Sergeants first class and staff sergeants who attend the Advanced NCO Course will be trained for success at the company level, as well as platoon level.

• Staff sergeants and senior sergeants E-5 who attend the Basic NCO Course will be trained in tasks needed by leaders at the squad and platoon levels.
