OMG..I saw "In the Valley of Elah" for the first time.I can't stop crying.
...towards the end..when Tommy Lee Jones gets a call in the middle of the night from his son in Iraq-it was almost identical to the one I received from my son on his first deployment.
I'll never forget it.
"Mommy-I'm scared-get me out of here"
...long pause...
"Don't worry mom-I aim low with the kids"

I hate this fucking war.

4. I gave up war movies. I just get to up-set.
I do not even watch the news most of the time as Gaza up-sets me so. That has been going on since I was going into high school and that was in the early 1950's.

6. This isn't about the war per se. It's a murder mystery pursued by a
dead soldier's father. The setting is near an Army base in Albuquerque, though some video clips of Iraq are shown.

11. Oh OK I am really off on new movies. I like the sounds of that
It is the war picture about killing that I do not like as you know the darn people fighting it hardly get killed and it is always the every day people that do. It seems to be better to blow up a school than kill one guy in uniform in these movies. Course I do think that is what the 'new' wars are about. You know 4000 Am. killed in Iraq and a few 100,000 Iraq people. Good odds I guess.

12. I'm with you, izzie -- I don't like war movies, either.
I kept putting off watching this movie because of that & I found that it was one of the better movies I've seen in awhile. You would love this movie -- trust me.

2. I myself can't watch these types of films, but I have the general
idea-war. Why are we shooting at kids! I hate war-bring them home now.... I hope your son comes home very soon. This has got to be unbearable for him as well as you. I wish I could suggest a cheerful movie. Maybe Queen Latifa's Last Holiday. It revolves around possibilities, and sounds like you could you some good ones.

3. Yeah. It's an amazing snapshot of this time.

I think it's the best work that Tommie Lee Jones and Susan Sarandan have done. And she's only in a couple of scenes. Very strong images. I forgot that they were Tommie Lee Jones and Susan Sarandan. Fantastic acting and a powerful story.

I think the last scene in the movie was one of the best of the last 8 years. Don't want to ruin it for those who haven't seen it. But I so identified with that character and his last act before he drove away in his truck.

7. I totally agree.
And the reason his son was killed spoke volumes about the evils of the dynamics in this particular war. The looks of horror & disbelief on the faces of Jones & Charlize Theron said it all.

Great, great movie.

8. It's been at least a year since we rented that and we still
talk about Tommie Lee's expression in that interview room.

5. I saw it for the first time the other night.
I loved how this hard-nosed, by-the-book former Army guy evolved into a damn-this-war believer. The final scene had my hubby & me cheering.
