Air Force to invite some officers to return

If you’re a former rated officer, the Air Force soon may ask you to come back.

Next week, the service is expected to announce a voluntary program encouraging rated officers who recently left the Air Force to put their uniforms back on. The program will target former pilots, navigators and air battle managers.

Fueling the effort is a shortage of rated officers qualified to fill positions for such jobs as rated staff and unmanned aerial vehicle pilots. The service also believes that some officers who left may want to return instead of taking their chance in a depressed civilian job market.
