Hearing slated for 7 charged in death of pfc.

FORT BRAGG, N.C. — An investigative hearing has been scheduled this week for seven paratroopers charged in the death of another soldier at their North Carolina post, the Army said Thursday.

The Article 32 hearing in the death of Pfc. Luke Brown, 27, of Fredericksburg, Va., was scheduled to start Friday morning and expected to last several days, said 82nd Airborne Division spokesman Master Sgt. Thomas Clementson.

Under military law, involuntary manslaughter carries a maximum prison sentence of 10 years.

Brown was an intelligence analyst found unresponsive July 20 in a car on the Army post. Although Army detectives treated the case as a homicide, the military medical examiner said the cause and manner of death were undetermined.

Lt. Col. John Saunders of Fort Riley, Kan., will conduct the hearing, the military equivalent of a civilian grand jury.
