RENO, Nev. — A 22-year-old Army veteran has been ordered to stand trial in Reno for his role in the alleged theft of two puppies and killing of another dog.
Jonathan Paul Johnson of Reno is accused of supplying his vehicle and acting as the lookout while another man stole the two English bull dog puppies from an elderly couple in November.
The other family dog was struck and killed by the vehicle when they were making their getaway.
Johnson was in tears as he was taken from Justice of the Peace Pete Sferrazas courtroom on Wednesday. He faces three counts of aiding and abetting felonies: home invasion, grand larceny and robbery upon a person older than 60. His lawyer, Jessica Longley, said her client was deployed in a war zone while in the Army and has been struggling with substance abuse.
Police said Michael Donica, nicknamed “White Rabbit,” is a person of interest they want to question. Detectives said Donica has fled the state.
