Nev. reserve unit welcomed home

LAS VEGAS — About 230 Nevada-based soldiers in an Army Reserve transportation unit have arrived home after a year in Iraq and Kuwait.

Members of the 257th Transportation Company, dubbed “Rolling Thunder,” arrived Monday night at Nellis Air Force Base north of Las Vegas after an assignment that began in January 2008.

Officers say no unit members were injured driving nearly 2 million miles delivering tanks, artillery and armored vehicles to units in Operation Iraqi Freedom.

The unit is part of the 63rd Regional Readiness Command, headquartered in Los Alamitos, Calif.

It also deployed to Iraq and Kuwait in 2003.
