Kentucky guardsmen continue door-to-door checks

FRANKFORT, Ky. — National Guard troops are continuing their massive operation of knocking on every door in storm-ravaged parts of Kentucky, looking for ice storm victims in need of help.

Kentucky Adjutant General Edward Tonini says those efforts led to the discovery Tuesday of one elderly woman in need in her home.

Guard spokesman 1st Lt. Kyle Jason Key says troops in McLean County were conducting “wellness checks” Tuesday when they came to a house where it appeared no one was home. Key says troops knocked and found a woman with diabetes who was running out of food and water.

Key says troops then turned her over to local authorities for medical attention.
