Mom, Son Guilty of Stealing From Miss. Guard

A mother and son duo pleaded guilty Feb. 5 in federal court to conspiring to steal and embezzle government money by fraudulently using government fuel cards more than 10,000 times during a five-year period, the Justice Department announced.

Cathy A. Jackson and Anthony P. Moore of Canton, Miss., were accused of stealing more than $645,135 in diesel, gasoline and other items at various stores for their personal use or in exchange for cash from others, according to information filed in the case.

Jackson and Moore each face up to 10 years in prison and a $250,000 fine.

The Voyager Fleet Fuel Card program is a Defense Department program that provides a method for buying fuel, parts and maintenance services for vehicles owned or leased by DoD.

Jackson was the accountable official for the Office of the U.S. Property and Fiscal Officer in Mississippi. The office was responsible for fuel cards distributed to the Mississippi National Guard.
