NEWPORT NEWS, Va. — The aircraft carrier George H.W. Bush has yet to depart for its first set of sea trials.

Officials at Northrop Grumman Shipbuilding in Newport News say the carrier is due to depart by the end of February. The $6.26 billion carrier initially had been due to depart for builder’s sea trials in late January.

The Navy said operational testing to prepare the ship for trials revealed “discrepancies” that needed to be resolved before the carrier’s force begins an intense training period called “fast cruise.”

The carrier was commissioned on Jan. 10 at Naval Station Norfolk without being completed. It must pass two sets of sea trials before the Navy officially accepts the ship.

I HATE the way carriers are named.

Stennis, Reagan, and Truman - who HATED the Navy and killed the carrier program -, and Vinson need to have the names pried off and replaced with:
