Sources: DoD budget outline is forthcoming

The Pentagon is expected to release some details of its 2010 spending plan by the end of February, with the full defense budget request coming in April, according to sources.

Several budget insiders said the Defense Department is preparing to release information about the overall 2010 DoD top line and, as one source put it, other “bigger picture numbers” several days after President Barack Obama’s Feb. 24 address to a joint session of Congress.

The skeleton budget will reflect overall totals and some other total numbers agreed to by the Pentagon and the Office and Management and Budget, sources said.

But defense watchers should expect few — if any — program-specific details until April, when the Obama administration has had time to scrub the 2010 plan left behind by the Bush administration.
