‘Heritage coat’ still possible

Fielding the blue “heritage coat” is still on the table for the Air Force.

The jacket, part of airmen’s day-to-day business Class B uniform, is one of four proposed dress changes working their way up the chain of command, said Ruth Ewalt, chief of Air Force uniform programs and policy.

The wear test of the heritage coat is complete and survey results from airmen are being reviewed, Ewalt said. No date has been set to decide if the service will switch to the heritage coat or if the jacket needs to be redesigned.

The heritage coat was championed by former Chief of Staff Gen. T. Michael Moseley, who wanted a jacket that hearkens back to uniforms worn in World Wars I and II. The most noticeable difference between the current Class B coat and the heritage coat is a cloth belt on the heritage coat that buckles at the waist.
