Senior officers get new jobs

An Air Force major general will be the senior military assistant to the U.S. special representative for Afghanistan/Pakistan, Richard Holbrooke.

Maj. Gen. Burton M. Field, an F-15 and F-22 pilot, is now vice director for strategic plans and policy on the Joint Staff in the Pentagon. Before his current Joint Staff tour, Field spent a year in Iraq as commander of the 332nd Air Expeditionary Wing at Joint Base Balad.

Field also has led the 1st Fighter Wing at Langley Air Force Base, Va., and the 8th Fighter Wing at Kunsan Air Base, South Korea, and was commandant of the Weapons School at Nellis Air Force Base, Nev.

Field’s replacement will be Maj. Gen. Darren W. McDew, a career mobility pilot who is now Air Force director of public affairs.
