U.S. says jury in Fort Dix case was right

CAMDEN, N.J. — Government prosecutors are defending the conviction of five Muslim immigrants who conspired to kill U.S. military personnel.

The men, whom prosecutors say targeted the Army’s Fort Dix in New Jersey, have all asked a judge to overturn the jury’s verdict, claiming it wasn’t supported by the evidence.

The men could be sentenced to life in prison in April if the verdicts stand.

Prosecutors say in a legal brief filed Wednesday that the jury got it right and that the evidence did link the five men to a plot.

Prosecutors also contend that by taking nearly a full week to deliberate, the jury was careful and got its decision right.
