Hearing set for 2 accused in death of spc.

FORT BRAGG, N.C. — Two of seven soldiers charged with involuntary manslaughter in the death of a colleague will be in court to determine whether they will face court martial proceedings.

The men, 23-year-old Spc. Ryan Sullivan of Mount Laurel, N.J.; and 22-year-old Spc. Joseph A. Misuraca of Harper Woods, Mich., will appear at Fort Bragg Friday for an Article 32 hearing — similar to a civilian grand jury — in the death of Pfc. Luke Brown.

Prosecutors have said the seven soldiers are responsible for Brown’s death because he died after either being choked or how he was placed face down in a vehicle on the way home.

Defense attorneys argued the soldiers were protecting the 6-foot, 250-pound man from himself.

A decision on all seven is expected after Sullivan and Misuraca’s hearing.
