Student pilot not injured in Talon crash

A student pilot was able to walk away Wednesday from the crash of his T-38C Talon training jet at Sheppard Air Force Base, Texas, according to Air Force reports.

The second lieutenant from the 80th Flying Training Wing had started the plane’s take off roll shortly after noon when he decided to abort the take off. The jet plowed through runway safety cables and came to a halt in a grassy area off the runway. Damage to the jet includes a collapsed right landing gear.

A safety investigation board now is looking into the crash.

Last year, four T-38C pilots died in two crashes as they tried to take off or land.
