Nine hurt as military plane makes emergency landing in Mali

STUTTGART, Germany — A military aircraft carrying U.S. Africa Command personnel was forced to make an emergency landing Thursday in Mali, causing non-life-threatening injuries to the nine people aboard the a twin-engine turbo-prop aircraft, AFRICOM reported Friday.

Three crew members and six personnel were injured after the plan suffered an apparent mechanical malfunction, according to AFRICOM.

All personnel received medical treatment at a facility in the Mali capital of Bamako and were awaiting transport to Landstuhl Regional Medical Center in Germany, AFRICOM reported.

The accident occurred at about 3:30 p.m. Personnel from the U.S. Embassy in Mali and members of the Malian military were soon on the scene to provide medical assistance, AFRICOM said.

A safety board will investigate and determine the exact cause of the incident, according to AFRICOM.
