About 420 guardsmen leaving Sill for Iraq tour

LAWTON, Okla. — Some 420 National Guard troops have left Fort Sill for a one-year deployment to Iraq.

The members of 2nd Battalion, 285th Aviation Regiment, will conduct aviation operations that include air assault and air movement operations.

A spokeswoman at Fort Sill says 74 of the troops are from Oklahoma, with the others coming from Arizona, North Dakota and Utah.
