NEW MADRID, Mo. — A naval recruiter has pleaded guilty to tampering with evidence connected to a statutory rape case against him.
Robbie J. Millsaps, 35, pleaded guilty Tuesday to the felony charge and will be sentenced Jan. 26.
Millsaps was charged in September with second-degree statutory rape involving a 16-year-old student he met on a recruiting visit. The Southeast Missourian reports that Assistant Prosecuting Attorney Angel Woodruff says the second-degree statutory rape charge is still pending.
Investigators say they retrieved text messages from Millsaps’ cell phone asking the student not to reveal what happened between them.
