WILMINGTON, N.C. — Navy officials think skeletal remains found in southeastern North Carolina belong to a Camp Lejeune Marine who disappeared six years ago.
Multiple media outlets report that NCIS officials said a skull found last week by a hunter in Pender County is that of Lance Cpl. Stanley Bosley, who was 21 when he disappeared. Authorities found the rest of Bosley's skeletal remains on Monday, 50 to 70 feet from the skull.
NCIS says clothing on the remains matched Bosley's. Officials are awaiting results from a dental analysis.
Authorities discovered Bosley's car, keys and wallet on the ground in December 2003. The bones were found nearby.
Investigators say Bosley faced deployment and left a message on his girlfriend's phone before he disappeared saying he was drinking alcohol and cough medicine.
