NORFOLK, Va. — Federal prosecutors in Virginia say a New Jersey man has pleaded guilty to illegally possessing a Navy M61 Vulcan automatic gun.
Wayne Miller entered the plea Thursday in federal court in Norfolk. He will be sentenced March 22.
According to court papers, the 49-year-old Red Bank, N.J., man obtained the Vulcan cannon at the Naval Air Station Oceana in Virginia Beach in 2005.
Prosecutors say Miller was interested in Navy F-14 parts so he could open an aircraft simulator business.
Matthew Sutton, who was working on demilitarization of Navy aircraft, allegedly forged Navy records to document the transfer of the cannon to Miller. The Mineral Wells, Texas, man has pleaded not guilty to related charges and is scheduled for trial Jan. 20.
