huge Question
my son was in the national guard for 9 years and almost went to Iraq. he had a blood clot which was a blessing in disguise to me, and didnt go. this was right after my other son passed away.
so now I find out he just re upped for 1 yr. he says his unit wont be deployable for 2 more years so hes safe.

now, can someone re up for just one year? I just need to ask. I just took a valium, too.

2. Yes
In the National Guard a soldier can extend for one year.

It's a common practice when there is no reenlistment bonus for your MOS; you only extend for one year so that if a bonus becomes available, you are already eligible to do another longer reenlistment to get the bonus.

3. thank you
I really appreciate that. thank you so much. i know that he cannot find a job (Michigan) and he has a 2 yr old and wife who is a chef looking for work. I dont trust the military. He knows I do not support him being in the guard with the insane wars going on, but it seems like that is all there is. this certainly gives ME peace of mind, in every way. god bless you for your answer.
