The Right Wing American Legion is now taken in non-veterans
The American Legion ever since they went right wing are losing members. This vet is not sad to see this happen. When they use RNC talking points for press releases we know they no longer care about Veterans. Now across the Country they are taken in non-veterans to help with their events.
Here is just one of those stories

1. I'm not so sure this is necessarily a new policy.
During the mid to late eighties, I played a regular weekly gig at a "legion home" and it was the cheapest place to drink around.
Money was always tight so they made no effort to document anyone's service history and were happily taking in anyone who would play along with them.

They did have a group of WWII and Korean vets who marched in the parade and attended funerals, but they did not otherwise single themselves out as special or going to any lengths to support veterans' causes.

2. My wife's parents
ran the AL post in Palestine TX for years, He was the post chief and his wife was the head of the Ladies Auxiliary. They were hardcore Democrats and cared about the vets and their issues. After they died the place turned into a RNC following. Needless to say I won't step foot in the place whenever we're in East Texas.

4. Same AL and ALA committment for my parents and grandparents.
I was signed up as a Junior girl ao my ALA membership is years and years old. I'm resigning the ALA. No more for me. Their new leadership is not representing my beliefs.
