CARTHAGE — Army 1st Sgt. Charles R. Wagenbrenner of walked out to his driveway Saturday night to discover a brand-new olive green custom-built Buell motorcycle. The brainchild of his brother, Karl P. Wagenbrenner, the bike was constructed from parts donated by Vietnam, Korea and Desert Storm veterans.
"It's humbling," Sgt. Wagenbrenner said Monday.
Sgt. Wagenbrenner, who has been stationed at Fort Drum since January, was deployed in Iraq for 15 months.
When Mr. Wagenbrenner took to the Web last year seeking parts for a bike he hoped to build his brother, he had no idea how generous people would be. His posting on a motorcycle website received replies almost instantly from motorcycle-loving veterans all over the country, including Pennsylvania, California, Michigan, Massachusetts, Louisiana, New Jersey and Florida. IronWorks Magazine heard about what he was doing and put him in contact with S and S Cycle,a Wisconsin shop that donated a carburetor and intake system.
