A much briefer and less fascinating and hilarious, online article than the one in yesterday's paper version of the Daily Mail, but here it is, anyway:

He used to travel in the back of their truck with them most of the time, but sometimes he'd sit in the front, next to the driver. They got some strange looks.

A British soldier saw a bear coming out of a wood carrying a shell and handing it to one of a group of Polish gunners, shelling Monte Cassino, in preparation for their infantry's assault ; then returning to the wood, only to return with another shell for them, and so on. And nobody seemed to take much notice of him.
