The boys from the 82nd Airborne
came to my dive shop one day in 1957. Ten of them there were; young, strong and vibrant. They wanted to learn to dive with SCUBA. They figured it might be a useful skill on their impending overseas vacation, like Vietnam maybe.

Quickly they learned everything they needed to know. They were a good bunch of child-men laughing, joking, grab assing, and learning. They had no trouble at all with the learning.

Except for one. He could not learn the preferred method of jumping into the water; legs spread like scissors and immediately snapped together upon entering the water.

He could not do that. As soon as his feet left the ground his legs extended straight out from his body as if jumping from an airplane.

His fellow jumpers laugh and laugh and laugh.

I often think about those child-men and I hope they are still laughing.

Just so.

not 1957. It was ten years later 1967. (I was still in the Navy in 56- 57-going through Underwater Swimmers school and 2nd class diving school.

Sorry my mind is failing. I am convinced.

Sigh
