Gore gets emotional talking about the state of the world

But like a lot of Hollywood, (Matt Damon) wishes he could vote for Al Gore. He says of a recent conversation with "An Inconvenient Truth" producer Scott Burns: "Scott told me he sat in a room with Gore, and Gore was talking about the state of the world and actually started crying. Like, literally."

Gore knows the fate of the world hangs in the balance. He knows that something needs to change.

I hope this means he is thinking about running. How could he not?

1. How could he not? You know I want him to, however -

If he is elected and he does not have massive citizen support and Congressional support then his tremendously valuable time will be wasted.

If he is elected and he DOES have massive citizen support and Congressional support then it will be the best possible place for him to be.

My heart hurts.

By the way - Leo DiCaprio's new movie "The 11th Hour" will be released by Warner Bros on August 17th - it will raise the profile of the issue and, thus, Al Gore. Thom Hartmann is in the movie and I am guessing Gore is too - but whether or not he is in the movie, it will get more people thinking about him.

3. That trailer made me cry

fwiw, I checked on imdb's full cast and crew page for the movie (http://imdb.com/title/tt0492931/fullcredits) and Gore isn't listed anywhere.

(and it is Leo DiCaprio's movie but get Leo and Matt confused on screen as well.)

4. LoL -- I've thought of Damon as being politically aware since

his killer speech about why he would not join up with U.S. intelligence in "Good Will Hunting" - so, I confuse them re: political positions as well as appearance.

And I just confused Damon with DiCaprio - Big time!

5. It is kind of a good idea for Gore to step back from this project -

Citizens need to see many, many different people speaking out about this issue. If citizes associate the issue of the climate crisis with one person, the issue won't resonate the way that it needs to. I am also glad to see Bill McKibben and Thom Hartmann and others who've been thinking and writing about this issue for decades being honored. This will help Al.

6. I was thinking the same thing

It is important for everyone to do what they can and Gore is empowering people to do just that. Gore wants people to make the environment their top priority and DiCaprio has stepped up to the plate. Even better, it looks like a good companion piece to AIT. You get to hear the same thing that Gore has said through a multitude of voices with a spectrum of experiences to back them up.

fwiw, I checked the 11th Hour website and Thomm comments on the oil angle. Oh man, I am so glad you pointed this movie out. I've got a lump in my throat from what I've been reading there.

I caught part of "Blood Diamonds" on PPV when I was down in Oklahoma about ten days ago. It was a pretty good movie with DiCaprio starring as a guy who deals in them. It was pretty powerful too. I know that 11th Hour is a documentary but I think it shows how DiCaprio is developing into a full-blown actor-activist. This should make it easier for me to remember the difference between Damon and DiCaprio but it doesn't.
