1. I thought that 'drafting' really just means doing everything possible to
put him on the spot to run...

When he puts out a call asking for donations to the DCCC (:puke:) I donate because the inside the beltway Dems pay attention to the person who can raise the biggest $$.

Write letters to the editor about Gore.

Get people to go see "Inconvenient Truth" and get groups together to talk about the film.

I heard a REALLY good conversation on Jerry Springer's AAR show this morning - a caller who was *electric* when talking about Gore and then Jerry got into it to, saying that THE biggest issue in '08 is competence and that there is certainly no question about Gore's competence.

Make NOISE about Al -- then make more NOISE. Until he and the Dems hear us.

That is what I thought. Now should we try to be more strategic about doing these things?

2. Isn't there a Gore 08 website? Emailing that to anyone and everything
may be a start but yeah, as far as drafting someone I have no idea if it just means putting pressure on them or doing something legit.

I read here a few weeks ago that he's waiting as long as possible to avoid getting swiftboated.

3. I don't think he can avoid getting swiftboated by waiting.
He *is* going to be swiftboated, so is every other Dem. He does have to be ready to deal with it.

I think that it is possibly, not the right thing to do, to announce his candidacy before the 2006 elections. Right now he is raising $$ for 2006 candidates who promise to work for the environment. The focus should be on turning the Congress & Senate blue for right now.

There is an Al Gore 2008 website and it is really well done -- it is, however, *not* authorized by Gore -- it is a site set up by someone who, like us, wants to draft Gore. A website attracts attention and could help:

6. I can't respond right now, because I have to attend a meeting
featuring Nancy Boyda, running against a RW incumbent in the house (KS, 2nd District). But I will respond later.

9. I totally agree that 2006 is the focus now.
But I also think we can walk and chew gum at the same time. Plus there is a true synergy here. Getting increased volunteers for AlGore.org (aka algore-08.com) and Gore 2008 meetups around his movie opening in two weeks, is creating *new* political capital/energy which can be plowed back into the 2006 campaign. For example, tonight I invited a congressional candidate (running against an entrenched RW congressman) to our Gore 2008 meetup in my town. She was very interested. If she accepts she will solicit funds and volunteers for her campaign at the Gore meetup. Also, we have a regional coordinator who is coming to the meetup to sign up precinct captains for our area.

And of course, by helping 2006 to be a big year for the party means we have a better chance to have control of both houses of congress in 2008 so that when we get Gore elected in 2008 he can hit the ground running on advancing beyond Kyoto, getting out of Iraq, full funding of federal campaigns, electoral technology reform, etc.

Fundraising is a separate issue. The vast majority of funds must go for 2006 campaigns, because there are practical limits to how much can be raised. That's not a big deal for us. AlGore.org is all volunteer, we can run on a shoestring compared to any congressional campaign. We're Net driven, not TV driven.

But political capital is different. That resource is largely yet to be tapped and doesn't have any limits in my view. Also, Dean came to my hometown second of all communities in the US when he did his red state tour: Lawrence, KS. He said we need to be a 50 state party and run four year campaigns and I agree completely with that as well. Does that make any sense?

5. I work with AlGore.org.
I have started getting inquiries because we are organizing Gore 2008 meetups around the movie. Send me a message and I can get you hooked up. I have already had one inquiry today!
