I was reading another forum, and a person opined that:

"No 3. Gore also told Rolling Stone that it would take a big event to change everyone's consciousness in order for him to run. He speculated that such an event may happen soon. Well today the IPCC came out and said that (as we all knew) things are far worse then previously reported. Gore is going to Scandanavia on Dec 9 for a major public concert in his honour and then I'm sure there will be a magnificent ceremony where he recieves his much earned Nobel Peace Prize. He then goes to Bali as the keynote speaker. I hereby predict that Gore will singlehandedly hammer out a new binding global deal on climate change that goes a long way to solve this crisis. 180 nations (out of 191) are sending delegates and their governments are going to instruct their delegates to just agree to whatever says. Everyone is under his spell. Gore can then visit his great friend Kevin Rodd who will have become the new Aussie PM by then and then arrive back in the US and say, 'now that the world has done this deal in Bali my faith in the power of the political system is renewed so ... I'm going to run for President.'"

(http://z8.invisionfree.com/Al_Gore_Support/index.php?showtopic=8141)

So could Gore be setting up a situation where he will have world cooperation/no viable resistance from still-friendly countries when he runs for/wins office?

Am I wishing out of my ass?

P.S. The rest of the post I don't jive with too much,but of course YMMV.

1. OR...
This extremely important meeting in Bali may be the challenge that has had him mum on running.

I've heard a number of people say that Al Gore would have more power to get the things done on Climate Change if he were president. I've said the same thing myself.

But if he can seal this new global deal, then the presidency becomes less important. He wouldn't have to convince the new president to sign an international deal.

OTOH, if the global deal is not consummated, the presidency becomes important again.

~Yes~ I do sit around and think up scenarios about what that man might be thinking and what would affect his running. I don't get a feeling of false hope. I believe he is trying to teach us something. Just what that something is, I haven't figured it out yet.

But I am still going to listen. I've received a great education listening to Al Gore.

2. we are all wishing. we can't help it.
just watch a half hour of "news" on the teevee.
here is mine- bushco creates a crisis big enough to declare martial law and suspend elections. al rides to the rescue, with a few million citizens behind him. we lay down in the streets of dc, and refuse to get up until bush is hanged from the truman porch.

seriously, tho, it is hard not to think that he has something up his sleeve. he has to be pissed off at the current field.

3. Heck, it's just nice seeing some other "hopers" here
What we do know is that he's got more political savvy than anyone else here. If he's got a plan, I'm going to wait and see what it is. I'm not changing my support for him until we get the Sherman statement, and I'm willing to wait until at least the primary here (in February) before I give up on Al.

6. You just keep on thinking ildreamer316
that's what you are good at!

I am sure he has good reasons to do what he's doing. Wish I knew what it was - but I trust him to do what he thinks is best.

7. Given the events in Bali
wonder if he will change his mind and run?

8. I read in one of the articles about the Bali talks
Edited on Fri Dec-14-07 04:02 PM by Pastiche423
that one solution to the refusal of the U.S. to commit, is to reconvene after a Democratic president is elected in 08.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Now I've just read that the talks have gone into Saturday trying to come up w/a compromise. It does not sound hopeful. The last paragraph:
"We are just very disappointed at this stage. We are ending up with something so watered down there was no need for 12,000 people to gather here in Bali to have a watered down text, we could have done that by email."
I would have preferred co-operation from everyone, but I believe the only way for that to be accomplished, is for Al Gore to run for president.
In 1999, when I 1st heard * was throwing his hat into the presidential ring, I laughed, out LOUD, thinking it was a joke.
Alas, the joke was on me and you and everyone in this country. :(
