That's the NPR interview from a while back that I had tried to get some notes down on exactly what he said (not a good transcript like some folks can do here). This was the one (I'm pretty sure it's the same one) where he said "people hear pretty clearly what I'm saying," and why he didn't give a Sherman statement (that was the way the question was asked) said that "some people say he was elected already so no need to make that kind of statement." And he said it was most unlikely that he would run in 2008, but figured at some point in the future he might see playing a role in politics again. He realized that "most important decisions" are in the political arena.
Reading between all these lines (and the quotes are not necessarily exact, but close) and everything else he has said, I think this interview offered nothing new or different. If anything, I think that interview on CNN after the Nobel ceremony was a clearer statement of what he saw his future being and it certainly did not close any doors.
And, there is still support out there for him. Tonight I've been "dialing for dollars" for the write-in campaign in NH. Made approximately 70 calls to folks in New Jersey who had signed the on line petition at draftgore.com (at least that's where I think most of them came from). The majority were ones I left messages at (45) but of the folks I actually talked to, 21 were still strong to very strong supporters of a Gore candidacy, only 4 felt it was a lost cause and had moved on to a different candidate. Several said they would definately send a contribution to the NH folks and just about all said they would be taking a look at the draftgoreNH web site. Farrell sent me an e-mail this evening that they were making calls there also, covering a lot of the New England states and getting favorable responses from surrounding states; the NH folks were worried about not having their vote count if they went toward Gore. That just means we need to do a good job on publicity between Christmas and the Jan. 8 primary to convince them that they won't be wasting their votes.
By the way, if anyone seeing this wants to help out with phone calls, I can get you numbers/names and a tentative "script" and you, too, could help out. It's not bad - especially when the very first call I made was to someone who said they'd send along $25 to NH.
KEEP THE FAITH, and don't be hornswoggled by folks on those other DU threads that are trying to spread anti-Gore crap.
