JERUSALEM: Al Gore and the Israeli author Amos Oz are among the recipients of this year's Dan David Prize for outstanding scientific, technological, cultural or social impact on the world.
The prize, which is based at Tel Aviv University, awards $1 million (€690,000) each in categories representing the three time dimensions: past, present and future.
Gore, a Nobel Prize laureate and former U.S. vice president, won the present prize for "his multiple contributions to creating greater worldwide awareness of the disastrous effects that man's energy consumption has on the environment," read a statement from the Dan David Prize.
Gore told the fund that he would contribute the money toward raising awareness about the solutions to the climate crisis.
