Pauline Gore, mother of former vice president, has died

The life of Pauline LaFon Gore, which spanned generations of family, included political pain and glory, and which made the first cracks in the glass ceiling for women, has ended. She was 92.

Mrs. Gore died in her sleep overnight at the family home in Carthage, Tenn.

Mrs. Gore, wife of the late Sen. Albert Gore Sr. and mother of former Vice President Al Gore, was the heart of a powerful Middle Tennessee political family. Her husband died in December 1998, at the age of 90.

She was a woman who thought like Rose Kennedy but looked like Barbara Bush; an intellect who was a controlled force behind both her husband's and son's campaigns through the years; a wife who was the straight mind to her husband's one-liners.

2. It is very sad for Al Gore and family

It is as if an era in TN has passed. Pauline and Al Sr, had a tough transition to make in the 60s when other democrats went republican. They did the right thing and they paid of it.
